    Leader of the Mongols

    A man known as Temujin(Genghis Khan) united the Mongol clans and led them in conquering much of Asia.
  • Apr 29, 1227

    Genghis Khan Dies

    Genghis Khan died in 1227, having conquered all of Central Asia and begun the conquest in China.He was succeeded by his son Ogadai.
  • Apr 29, 1300

    Mongol Empire Breaks Up

    Th empire broke up in the 1300s. Eventually the Chinese gained control of Mongolia in the 17th cntury. The Chinese ruled Mongolia for hundreds of years .

  • China Conquers Taiwan

    The Manchu Dynasty conquered Taiwan in 1683. This contributed to the large Chinese settlements on the island.

  • Japan Seizes Taiwan

    The Japanese seized aiwan (then called Formosa) after winning war with China in 1895.
