    The birth of Gandhi
    Gandhi was born Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was referred to by his followers as Mahatma, which means great soul. He was born in Porbandar, a small town in western India.

    Gandhi who is only thirteen years old gets married in May. His wife who is also thirteen is named Kasturba Makanji. Gandhi was supposed to get mzrried two times before that but both of his fiances died.

    Gandhi heads off to London and leaves behind his wife and his newborn son. He is only eighteen at this time and he leaves to become a lawyer. Gandhi tried to fit it as an Englishman but it felt strange to him so after three months he stopped trying. He focused on his studies and was a dedicated student.

    Gandhi was called to the bar in 1891, after he passed his law exxaminations very easily.The day after that he was enrolled to practice in the High Court. On the 12th he left to go back to India.

    When Gandhi brought his family with him back to South Africa the Boer War had begun. He made the Indian Ambulance Corp in which the Indians helped British soldiers who were injured.

    Gandhi created the Pheonix Settlement outside of Durban. The Pheonix Settlement was a way of living. It was a way to avoid possessions that were meaningless and to live in an equal society. Every member of the Pheonix Settlement were given three acres of land, which they had to farm and they were expected to help with the newspaper.

    Gandhi attends a meeting and speaks to people at the Empire Theater in Johannesburg. He sets up a non-violent campaign. He was protecting Indians from discrimination.

    Gandhi took the vow of brahamacharya which is a vow of abstinence from sexual relations, eben though he was married. He kept this vow for the rest of his lfe. To help he changed his diet to remove passion from his life. This diet consisted of fruits and nuts. He though fasting would help keep him from wanting sexual relations.

    The Black Act was passed and all Indains had to carry registration documents on them at all times, They also had to get fingerprinted. Protests broke out and Indians refused to get fingerprinted and keep registration on them. Strikes, illegal moving from Natal to Transvaal were two actions taken by Indians.

    Gandhi led the Salt March where he marched people to the sea to make salt illegally. This was a protest to the Salt Tax which made it illegal for workers to collect their own salt from the coasts of India.

    Gandhi sets forth the Quit India campaign. He declares independence from British rule. This leads to Gandhi being imprisoned.

    India is now free from British rule. It has been 200 years under their rule.

    Gandhi started fasting to show people to be non-violent. He wanted to stop the bloodshed.Five days later he stopped his vasting because the opposed leaders said they would stop the fighting.
  • Gandhi is assassinated

    Gandhi is assassinated
    Gadhi died whilke he was at a prayer meeting. A young man oshed his way past Gandhi's bodyguard and then shot Gandhi with a pistol. The man's name was Nathurum Godse. He shot Gandhi three times and seconds later Gandhi dies. Godse was sentenced to death.
