  • Hull's Proclomation

    Hull's Proclomation
    In this historic event, William Hull effectively began one of the first offenses of the War of 1812. In his speech, he proclaims that the US is attempting to fight on the Canadian territory. In order to justify this, he tries to discredit Britain's rule and assure them that the US could manage them better.

  • Hull Surrenders at Detroit

    Hull Surrenders at Detroit
    In this first major battle of the War of 1812, WIlliam Hull, an American general, surrendered to British forces in Detroit. Famously, he surrendered without firing a single shot at the British. The militiamen were able to go home while the normal soldiers were taken prisoner.

    Battle of Queenston Heights- Brock Killed
    In this battle, The famous British commander Isaac Brock was killed, which was a large blow to the British. Even though they lost Brock, the British forces still came out victorious. Historically, the New York militia supporting the American forces refused to go into Canada, causing them to lose the battle.

  • Laura Secord's Walk

    Laura Secord's Walk
    Laura Secord, one of the most famous women of the War of 1812, is known for walking to a British camp in order to warn them of an upcoming American attack. After having to harbor American officers in her home, she heard their plans and traveled through the forest in order to warn the British soldiers at Beaver Dams.

    Battle of Lake Erie
    In this battle, the American forces, with a larger force of ships than the British, went through a long battle in which they defeated the British and permanently took control of Lake Erie.

  • Battle of the Thames- Tecumseh Killed

    Battle of the Thames- Tecumseh Killed
    In this battle, after the British forces lost Lake Erie, the American army chased after them in hopes of stopping their retreat. Historically, in this battle, Tecumseh, the main leader of the Native American allies to the British, was killed. Through this, the British lost a lot of Native American support, and the British were defeated in the battle.

    Battle of Châteauguay- Salaberry Victorious
    In this historic battle, which was a part of America's offense on Montreal, The French commander Lt. Colonel Charles de Salaberry defeated a much larger American force. The American force had an advantage not only in size but also in knowledge of the land; however, this would prove useless as Salaberry defeated the American forces and convinced them to surrender.

  • Washington Burned

    Washington Burned
    In this famous confrontation on US soil, The poorly defended capitol city was lost and burned by the British. The White House, The Capitol Building, and executive department offices were burned. This would lead to the resignation of the US secretary of War and the fleeing of president James Madison.

    Star Spangled Banner Written
    In the Battle of Baltimore, which was a British attack that was repelled after three days of intense fighting, Francis Scott Key felt so compelled by the sight of the American Flag flying above the battle that he wrote the National Anthem of the US.

  • Treaty of Ghent Signed

    Treaty of Ghent Signed
    Through this document, the War of 1812 was ended and peace between Britain and America was restored. Although the document did not assess the main issues that started the war, they were not truly needed because Britain's war with France had ended.

  • Battle of New Orleans

    Battle of New Orleans
    In this battle, which was never meant to happen, the much smaller American force, under Andrew Jackson, decimated a huge British force. Because of this massive victory, America experienced a time of pride, and Andrew Jackson was later elected president. This battle actually happened after the Treaty of Ghent was signed, but news had not yet reached Jackson.
