The Start of the War
America declared war with the British on June 18, 1812. -
General Isaac Brock
In April of 1812 General William Hull surrendered to Brock at Detroit.
In October of 1812 General Isaac Brock was killed at the battle of Queenston Heights. -
Capture of Ogdensburg
British Major "Red" attacked Ogdendsburg by burning down government buildings and ships. This was a major supply route for the United States, but they would not reopen the route and it was used by the British instead. -
Capture of York
American troops invaded the Canadian capitol of York, and, for a while, had the British retreating from the city. Unfortunately, the British created an explosion in the city reulting in many deaths of American troops. Before the Americans retreated from the city they burned many important buildings and therefore, the British would burn down our White House. -
Fort George
American troops hurled cannons at Fort George and days later showed up to attack the British troops. American troops outnumbered the British 3:1. -
Laura Secord
Laura Secord traveled 19 miles to warne a British commander of the attack soon to be made on the Decew House by the American troops. About 500 Americans were taken as prisoner during this battle. -
Battle of Stoney Creek
American troops were stationed for the night in Stoney Creek the day before a big attack on Burlington Heights. The British were aware of the upcoming attack and decided to surprise the Americans and attack them in the middle of the night at Stoney Creek. The Americans had much larger numbers, but the British were quick and surprising. American troops retreated back to Fort George. -
Tecumseh
In October of 1813 chief Tecumseh was killed at the Battle of the Thames. -
Lt. Salaberry
British commander Lt. Salaberry made the American General Hampton believe that the Canadian troops there to help him were much larger than they actually were. Because of this American troops were forced to retreat back into American territory. -
Fort Erie
August 4th through September 21st.
The British attempted to siege Fort Erie beginning in August of 1814, but eventually gave up at the end of September, a little over a month later.
