  • Calling of the estates general

    Louis XVI decided to call together the Estates General in order to increase taxes
  • National assembly

    at the meeting of te estates general, the Third estaet proposed a new voting system in which each representative would have an individual vote.
  • Constituent Assembly

    The king finallyagreed to the Third Estate´s demands. A new Constituent Assmebly was elected to write a constitution
  • Legislative assembly

    a new legislative assembly was elected.
    It was dominated by two groups, the Girondins and the Jacobins.
  • Convention

    After the election of a new assembly known as the Convention, Louis XVI was accusedof treason and the executed in January 1793
  • Directory

    by 1795, France´s moderate middle class had gained control od the country and they established the Directory.
  • Consulate

    In 1799, there was a military coup and General Napoleon Bonaparte established a new form of government called the Consulate. This was a group`of three leaders which included Napoleon himself as First Consul
  • Approval of the Civil Code

    It was approved by the Law of March 21, 1804 and is still in force, although with numerous and important reforms.
  • Napoleon became emperor

    Napoleon became emperor in 1804 and introduced the new civil code.
  • Napoleon declared himself the king of italy

    The Kingdom of Italy, commonly known as the Italic Kingdom, was a European state created in 1805 by Napoleon Bonaparte, once he had himself crowned Emperor of the French, crowning himself in the former Italian Republic as King of Italy.
