    U.S Inflation
    Although there wasn't any major events in the economy, the U.S did experience inflation. Many believe the cause was slow econmic growth. Consumer prices increased significantly due to the slow growth of productivity and taxes also increased. In the late 50's, unemployment increased, production decreased, and a new $12 billion defecit was created.
  • U.S Economic Expansion

    U.S Economic Expansion
    In the 1960's, many big businesses dominated the ecomomy. These corporations included the automobile, housing, computer, and electrically powered products companies. U.S production was finally increasing, workers were being payed more, and inflation became stable. Unemployment had finally began to slowly decrease and families were bringing in a higher income. The American economy was finally booming.
  • John F. Kennedy became president of the U.S

    John F. Kennedy became president of the U.S
    John F. Kennedy became president in 1961 with the challenges of the Cuban Missile Crisis, the civil rights movement, and the space race. He thought the real problems of America included the poor and unfortunate people. Kennedy also pushed for equal rights for African Americans and they were later granted equal rights as Americans. Unfortunately, Kennedy was only able to serve for three years and was assisanted in 1963. Many honored him for his support and constant motivation to look ahead.

    U.S Recession
    After the Vietnam War, the U.S entered a recession. They faced an energy shortage, high inflation, and high unemployment. Worldwide, there was an oil shortage so nations kept their natural resources for themselves for the future. There was also a high demand for items with low supply. When soldiers returned from war, women were no longer needed in the work force and unemployment rose from 3.3% to 8%. The U.S economy feared another depression.

    Women's right to safe and legal abortion were guaranteed while antiabortion laws were overrid.

    It prohibited discrimination on bases of pregnancy and childbirth.
  • My mother was born

    My mother was born in Castro Valley at the same hospital I was born at. She lived with her parents until she was 11and then her father passed away and she lived with her mom until the age of 16 but then her mother also passed away. She then moved in with her fathers mom, her grandma and was practically raised by her and closer to her than anyone else.
  • My father was born

    My father was born the third of five boys and was the last child to be born in Mexico before they all came to the United States. He came to the United States at the age of one.
  • Grandparents came to United States

    Grandparents came to United States
    My grandparents came to the U.S in 1979 with three children, at the time, in order to live a better life. They knew their children could accomplish further more here in the U.S and more then they ever did. Now they visit Mexico often but still enjoy their life here with all of their children, grandchildren, and family.
  • Reagan became the president of the U.S

    Reagan became the president of the U.S
    Ronald Reagan became president in 1981 when the U.S was experiencing a deep recession. He planned on using the Reagan Revolution which would cut taxes, cut the federal government regulation, and increase the defense spending. However, these movements would only benefit the rich just as Hoover had attempted during the Great Depression and only failed at. The national defecit went from $74 million to $221 million just in Reagans presidential time period.
  • Bill Clinton became president

    Bill Clinton became president
    Bill Clinton became president in 1993 and faced an econmic crisis. Although no financial situation in the nation has been as crucial as the Great Depression, Clinton wanted to reassure Americans. Clinton planned to make the American government smaller while giving more authority to state governments. He also wanted to eliminate the budget defecit while maintaing low interest rates. Supporters of Clinton say he fostered a quick recovery.
  • Eileen Collins piloted the first space shuttle

    Eileen Collins piloted the first space shuttle
    Eileen Collins earned her pilot's license when she was in college. She went straight from college into Air Force pilot training. She became an astronaut in 1991 and in 1995, was the first American woman to pilot a shuttle and in 1999, she was the first woman to command a shuttle mission.
  • Monica Medrano was born

    I was born in Castro Valley just a week after my great grandmother from my dad's side (Grandpa's mother) passed away. It was a depressing month; however, my family had to cope with it because they were unable to go to Mexico for the death.
  • Elizabeth Medrano was born

    Elizabeth Medrano was born
    I was eight years old when my sister was born. After being an only child for so long, it was hard to become accustomed to sharing everything but eventually things got better. My little sister teaches me something new everyday, makes me smile and laugh, and is my greatest motivation. Now I really know I can not live with out her even though she may annoy me or make me mad.
  • My great grandpa passed away (Dad's side)

    My great grandpa passed away (Dad's side)
    My great grandpa was 84 when he passed away. He was already in a wheel chair and was near being completely deaf. People had to speak really loudly, or nearly yell, in his ear in order for him to hear them. It was also hard for him to respond back. He was together with his wife for about 60 years and they passed away together.

    My great grandma passed away (Dad's side)
    My great grandma was 82 when she passed away. She had already been walking with a walker when she was alive but never failed to make everyone laugh or smile. She was with my great grandpa for about 60 years and on January 13th when he passed away, no one wanted to tell her. Eventually, she no longer saw him in the room or felt his presence and shockingly passed away two days later. They are both missed and loved dearly.

    After being hospitalized for a stroke in 2005, and remaining their till 2010, my grandma passed away in Eden Hospital. She lived till the age of 90 and left a huge impact on all of us. She passed away when my sister was only 5 so my sister did not get to enjoy and treasure her prescence as much as I did since she was in the hospital all five years. My grandma was like my second mother when I was a child and loosing her was definitely one of the hardest moments of my life. She is deeply missed.
