  • The Journey to America

    The Journey to America
On September 3, 1870 I was finally out of money, all I had were the clothes on my back, a shovel and a bag of rice. I had heard about the free land in America. I wasn’t so sure it was true. I had started asking around about it and it turns out that the American government was giving out free land. I decided that the only way for me to survive was to take a ship to America. The only thing was that getting to America was going to be difficult; the Chinese exclusion act was in the way.
  • Journey to America extended

The only way I could get to America was to take a ship to Angel Island. When I got to angle island the people at Angel Island let me in because there was no point in sending me back because I had come on a ship alone.

  • The Dorms

    The Dorms
When I got through the main name and health check, I had to stay in the tightly packed dorms for two weeks before I could get off the island. The dorms had bathrooms and the men and women slept in different dorms. The dorms were very poorly cleaned.
  • My lucky Day

    My lucky Day
I had been living off practically nothing for the past year and I was on the verge of starvation. This was the day found the flyer that saved my life. This flyer was for job openings for helping to build the flyer had the rail road to the West. The flyer had said looking for work help build the rail road and get to the West for your chance to get your own free land. I had found the flyer just at the right time because they were going to start building the rail road tomorrow.
  • Building the Rail Road

    Building the Rail Road
The next morning I ate my usual breakfast rice grains and bread that a kind shop worker had gave me, then I set off to where the building of the rail roads was going to start. When I got there, there were thousands of people. The majority of the people that were there to build the rail roads were Asian immigrants just like me that had little to no money. We worked for little pay just enough to stay alive while we were working on the rail road. Working on the rail roads was very dangerous.
  • I Finally made it

    I Finally made it
I made it to the west. I had made enough money on the rail road to buy a horse and supplies to go and claim my land when the race starts. When I went to buy a horse there was one left and it ran right up to me and I knew that this was the horse for me. I named him lighting because he was faster than fast.
  • the Perfect Land

    the Perfect Land
It’s been a year since I made it to the west and the day had come that I go and claim my land. My dream land has a lake to fish in and lots of trees to build a house out of and still have lots of trees left. I was at the starting line with 5 minutes to go until the race for land started, I had scouted out my land and I had found the perfect plot of land five miles north from the starting line. When the race started I kicked lighting into high gear and raced off the claim my land.
