    What: An intellectual movement that began in England and inventually spread to different sections of the world.

    Where: Mainly Europe
    Why: To spread ideas that would help gain a new understaning in order to better society, government, and life. This is an image of a philosopher, created during the Enlightenment era

    Why: Due to the new methods of production and farming and the new ideas about economy.

    Why: For the National Assembly to continue meeting until they form a new constitution for France.

    What: A civil revolution that broke out in France in attempt to get rid of the Old Regime, a system that was unfair to the majority of France's population.

    Why: To overthrow the French government, inlcuding King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. To rid France of the Old Regime.

    Where: Modern-day Haiti
    When: 1791-1804
    Why; To abolish slavery in Saint-Domingue.

    What: A ten month period where suspected enemies of the Revolution were executed.

    Why: To eliminate all enemies of the French Revolution

    What: A war between L'Ouverture and Rigaud over control of Haiti.

    Why: Over a conflict between L'Ouverture and Riguad about who would control Haiti after defeating foreign forces.

    What: A war fought in Spain and Portugal that lead to a crushing defeat for France.
    When: October 7th 1807-1814
    Where: Spain and Portugal
    Why: Other countries, such as Spain and Portugal, were not cooperating with the Continental System, a plan by France to cut off Britain from any trade.

    Why: To keep Japan from isolating itself, to establish trading ports withing Japan.
