    Enlightenment
    The Enlightment was an intellectual movement where thinkers used reason and the scientific method, rather than religious teachings, to help them understand the world. It lasted from the 1600s to the 1700s and it started in Britain and spread to other European countires. The impacts of this time period included that the ideas of the philosophers changed governement, society, and economic structures and it encouraged revolutions in other areas of the world.

    In 1789, the National Assembly was locked out of there meeting place, but that didn't stop them. They made a pledge, known as the Tennis Court Oath, to continue meeting until they formed a new constitution for France.

    The National Assesmbly was a group formed by the third estate in 1789, during the French Revolution. Their goal was to pass laws and reforms in the name of French people. They formed this group after their suggestion of vote by population at the meeting of Estates General was denied by King Louis XVI.

    The Declaration of the Rights of Man was a constitution put together by the National Assembly in 1789. It was for the people of France and to protect their rights.

    Butty Boukman was a former slave and Voodoo priest. He organized a slave rebellion in 1791, known as the Boukman Revolt. This is considered to be the start of the Haitan Revolution.

    The Reign of Terror was a time period in that lasted from 1793 to 1794. It was the time span of when Maximillien Robespierre ruled France like a dictator. Many people were executed during this ruling.

    In 1799, L'Ouverture and Rigaud were the two sources of power in their colony. They disagreed over new ideas, and it soon lead to a war, known as the War of Knives. L'Ouverture won with the help of Britain.

    Touissant L'Ouverture created a new constitution for Haiti called the Haitian Constitution of 1801 in 1801. It abolished slavery, gave all citizens equal rights, and outlawed Voodoo. It also claimed all people living in Saint Domingue a French citizen and made L'Ouverture their leader for life. This made the people very upset and they started to rebel.

    The Peninsular War lasted from 1808 to 1814. It was Napoleon's attempt to attack Portugal for not contributing in the Continental System, but it was one of his failures. As a result, 300,000 of his men died.

    The Congress of Vienna was a series of meetings that European nations got together in Vienna from 1814-1815. Their goal was to set up policies to have collective securtiy and stability for Europe, which Napoleon was not supplying. They concluded to return the monarchs that Napoleon overthrew to power, return the land taken by Napoleon to its original owners, and to make an alliance system to balance the power of Europe and to weaken France.

    The Treaty of Nanjing was signed by China in 1842. This treaty ended the Opium War, and it also gave Britain Hong Kong. This signing lead to the formation of other treaties that made China trade.

    The Treaty of Kanagawa was signed by the United States and Japan in 1854. The agreement opened two Japenese ports to the United States' ships and allowed the United States to set up an embassy in Japan.

    The Sepoy Mutiny was when the sepoys, Indian soldiers for the British East India Company, rebelled against the British East India Company. They refused to bite off their cartridges due to their belief that they were filled with beef and pork, which their religion went against eating.

    The Meiji Era lasted from 1867 to 1912. It was the time period of when The Japanese emeperor Mutsuhito ruled and modernized Japan. He also created a new government called Meiji.

    The Berlin Conference was a meeting between fourteen European nations to decide how to divide up Africa amongst them. There weren't any African representatives present at this meeting, and Africa was split up according to the outside nations.
