Midterm Review Timeline (Ethan Esber, C-Period)

    Enlightenment

    This was a period when people were questioning the government, society, and everything.Two philosophers such as John Locke coming up with natural rights or Baron Montesquieu creating the three branches of government. This lead to many people questioning how they live and many revolutions occured.
  • Industrial Revolution

    Industrial Revolution
    A time when countries were transitioning to new manufacturing processes. It involved machines and quick fast ways to make goods. This involved workers such as small children or adults. This also greatly lowered prices of goods for the people.
  • French Revolution

    French Revolution
    This is when the third estate was tired of people being mistreated and having unfair rights. During this time they overthrough King Louis and established equal rights.

    French Rev- The National Assembly
    King Louis XVI called apon the three estates to vote on how France should be. The first and second estate, the nobles and clergy, always voted together to ensure they won. It was unfair because the third class made up 98% of the population while the clergy and nobles made up the other 2%. This got the third estate angry and made them form a group called the National Assembly to create a new Constitution for France.

    This was an oath by the National Assembly when they were locked out of their regular meeting place to never stop meeting until a constitution was made for France.

    French Rev - Delcaration of the Rights of Man and of Citizen
    On August 26th the National Assembly created the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of Citizen which said that men are born equal in society and in the law.
  • Haitian Revolution

    Haitian Revolution
    The spanish and french went to the island of Haiti and took control creating Saint-Domingue and Saint-Domingo. They used africans and the taino indians as slaves. The slaves wanted equal rights after seeing France make the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen. They rebelled and France abolished slavery. Napoleon sent more troops to restablish slavery, but in the end the africans got their island of Haiti.

    At this time, the Jacobins took control of the National Convention and issued laws to anyone suspected as a threat to France. During this time they executed thousands of French citizens because they were suspected of being a threat to France. A man who issued a lot of these executions was Robespierre who was in control of the Commitee of Public Safety until he was executed on July 28, 1794.
  • Rise of Napoleon

    Rise of Napoleon
    Born on August 15, 1769, Napoleon was the best military tactitian of France. While the Reign of Terror was happening, he was out fighting wars. He came back to see France in chaos. He won politcal support and announced himself Emperor in 1804. He went to many battles and eventually had to surrender to the other Eurpeon countries. They sent him to a deserted island where he came back for one final stand. His military leaders refused to fight and the Europeon countries, agian, banished him.

    French Rev- Congress of Vienna
    A meeting where all the Europeon nations met to descide what to do after France was defeated. At this meeting they decided to not punish France, and set more boundries for the countries. They also agreed on no major conflicts for 40 years.
  • China Imperialism - Opium War

    China Imperialism - Opium War
    Britain couldn't get China to fully commit to their trade, so they found a drug called Opium from the Poppy plant and imported it to China. This caused China's imports to be more than their exports and Britain started gaining money from the opium. After years more than half of China was addicted to Opium. China told Britain to stop, but they refused. This caused China to go into a naval war with Britain. They lost and they had to give Hong Kong and excusive trading rights to Britain.

    Where China had to give Britain Extraterrirotrial Rights and Hong Kong. Hong Kong was one of Japan's major resource places.
  • Japan Imperialism- Matthew Perry Goes To Japan

    Japan Imperialism- Matthew Perry Goes To Japan
    An American Commodore who went to Japan to ask for trade. He came with a number of ships to "intimidate" them. He left Japan a treaty and they had one year to decide what they would say. Japan knew they had to sign it because of their lack of technology. Matthew Perry came back with even more ships to get Japan's reply. Japan said yes and signed the Treaty of Kanagawa which gave the U.S excusive trading rights.

    Where Japan excepted America's offer to trade. This gave the U.S extaterritorial rights which means Americans were immune to the laws of Japan.
  • Africa Imperialism- Berlin Conference

     Africa Imperialism- Berlin Conference
    The major powers of Britain met in Berlin to decide how to divide up Africa. Africa was not invited to this meeting.The bigger powers such as France and Britain got a lot of the land.
