    Battle of Tours

    The Muslim attempt to conquer Europe. They were defeated in Gaul by the Christians. If they had won this battle, Christianity may not have survived.

    Charlemagne was crowned King of the Romans

    On Christmas Day, Charlemagne became the Holy Roman Emperor. He was anointed by the Pope. His rule included a rebirth of Greco-Roman ideas, built schools, roads, and hospitals, and solidified the power of the Church in government.
