    "The First Crusade," launched in 1096, and was the first in a series of holy wars that affected the ideology and culture of Christian Europe. Preached by Pope Urban II, the aim of the crusade was to unite warring Christian factions in the common goal of liberating the Holy Land from its Moslem rulers.

    The Normans invaded and settled in Ireland, which was an embarrassment to King Henry II of England. King Henry decided that the best way to deal with the mess was to put a strong bow in his place. Then, he invaded and declared himself Lord of Ireland.
