    This is the story of a few week old kitten dropped into the book return box at the Spencer Public Library in Spencer, Iowa. Also, how he came to know all of the staff so well and accepted everyone who welcomed him. (21 pages) [ total pages: 781]
  • Chapter 3-6 (pages 22-47)

    The staff at the Spencer Library start to notice Dewey's routine of hiding in boxes and greeting regualars at the library. He romps everywhere and falls asleep anywhere he can get into. Dew also gets into the habit of eating rubber bands, showing up as worms in his litter box. And has a tendencey to jump out of cabnets and scare people. (25 pages) [total pages: 806]

    The size of Spencer, Iowa, compared to the rest of the neighboring towns. And how Vicki Myron's parents met and settled in the neighboring town, Moneta. (3 pages) [total pages: 809]
  • Chapter 6-10 (pages: 51-85)

    This section is about how Vicki grew up in the small farm town of Mankato, IA. Grasshoppers came and chewed down all the crops. Along with the devistation that Spencer had gone through in the 1930's.
    It's also about Dewey's friends and visitors at the Library. One special visitor/friend was Jodi, Vicki's daughter. When their dog died, Dewey became the "replacement" pet in their lives. Dewey would do anything to impress the little girl, and followed her all around. (34 pgs) [total pgs 843]
  • Chapter 10-11 (pages 86-101)

    After High School she followed her boyfriend/fience to college, only to marry him and become pregnant shortly after. She had a troubled pregnancy, and after multiple surgeries and troubles, she found out that her husband was an alchoholic. After finding this out she started hanging out with some of her husband's friend's wives, who helped her in her times of need.

  • Chapter 10-11 (pages 86-101) CONTINUED

    After Vicki divorced her husband she decied to go to college. She graduated summa cum laude, with a general studies degree, double majors in psychology and woman's studies, and minors in anthropology and library science from Mankato State. She then took her first job at a friend's busniss, to then become the Spencer Public Librarian.
    She had to take her masters classes long distance. And involved herself into remodeling the library all at the same time. (15 pages) [total pages: 858]
  • Chapter 11-13 (pages 102-120)

    Vicki's daughter has a party that goes out of control and she realizes that her daughter is growing up without her.
    And she talks about the games she plays with Dewey. Like Hide-n'-Seek and find me if you can, I'm hiding on top of the lights in the Library. (18 pages) [total pages: 876] Another thing Dewey loved was the library's plastic Christmas tree and it's box. Christmas became Dewey's new favorite holiday!
  • Chapter 13-17 (pages 121-156)

    When the library got redone Dewey climbed all over the Library on the high shelves that he had never explored before, and it became his favorite spot in the library, along with hiding in the spaces between bookshelves. In Chapter 14 Dewey escapes the library and is scared to death of cars and ends up only a block away hiding under an SUV. After Jodi went to college Vicki decieded to get professional photos of Dewey to promote the Library, and to remember the moment of him forever. NEXT PAGE

    Dewey posed perfectly for the photographer and the photo choosen is the one on the cover of the book. Vicki also endered it into a pet photo contest and Dewey won by a landslide of 80%. Dewey was also featured in lots of Newspapers, Magazines, and Articles all over Iowa, and neighboriing states. Which got the library tons of publicity from arokund the country!   • Chapter 17-20 (pages: 157-194)

    This part is about Dewey's small involvment in modern Spencer, Iowa. How Dewey's everyday job discription went. Including his hatred of the Vet. He had special connections with the smaller, and special needs kids of Spencer. (37 pages) [total pages: 948]
  • Chapter 20-22 (194-221 pages)

    This part is all about Dewey's publicity from Newspapers, Visitors, TV, Radio, and even a Japanese Film. All of this was for little Dewey. The Library had not asked or promoted Dewey in any form, but he made it in the spotlight anyways. (27 pages) [total pages: 975]
  • Chapter 22-26 (pages: 221-253)

    Vicki's daughter get married, and the whole family attends. Later Vicki's brother, Steven, dies of Non-Hodgkin's lymphomia at the age of 19. Her other brother, David then commits suside due to a mental illness. The at the age os 83 Vicki's mom has beat brest cancer 5 times, but the 6th time doesn't make it. Dewey has become quite old within this period of time, and has lost almost all hearing at age 17. Dewey also starts to lose his appetite. (pages: 32) [total pages: 1,007]
  • Chapter 26-END (pages: 254-277)

    Christmas of 2005, Jodi brought over her twins. Dewey loved them both the same as, he had loved Jodi, Vicki's daughter. In 2006, Dewey had a tumor growing in his stomach, causing him aganizing pain. So Vicki made the discision of putting him down right then.
    Later they all had a ceremony for Dewey with newspapers from around the world writing their loving memories of Dewey. Vicki buried him in the Library's garden, next to a statue honoring her mother.
