  • NAFTA goes into affect

    NAFTA stands for North American Free Trade Agreement. This agreement, signed by the governments of Canada, Mexico, and the United States, allowed for free trade between the countries. The goel was to eliminate the barriers of trade and investment between the three. Tariffs were eliminated on January 1, 1994. this is significant to my lif because alot of goods in America come from those countires and if this was never passed some of them probably wouldnt be present today.

  • The summer olympics

    On July 19, 1996, the summer olympics were opened in Atlanta GA by former president Bill Clinton. The games are known for America's achievments in track and field. Micheal Johnson set a world record in the 200 meter race. This is significant to my life because my father went to Georgia for those Olympics.
  • Cloning Funding

    On this day, Fedral funding for any research going into human cloning is barred by President Clinton. he termed this the "troubling prospect". He said "Any discovery that touches upon human creation is not simply a matter of scientific inquiry,". This is significant to my life because if he had never done that we might have clones today. Scottish scientists cloned a sheep so why not a human.
  • Iraq Liberation Act

    US Congress passed the legislation for the Iraq Liberation Act. This stated that the US wanted to remove Sadam Huessien from power. This was signed by Bill Clinton and stated that the US supported democratic movements in Iraq. The act had found that the Iraqi Government had violated various rules set during the gulf war. this ultimately led to war in Iraq. this is significant to my life because this was the war during my time and this is what initiated it.
  • Bill Clinton Aquitted

    Bill Clinton is aquitted by the US Senate in the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Bill Clinton had an affair with a white house intern. At first he denied it but he was then found guilty and impeached. Although he was guilty, the US Senate aquiited him of all charges of obstruction of justice and prejury. he then remained in office. This is significant to my life because if he didnt remain president, who knows who couldve became president and how history couldve changed.

    World Trade Center
    On this day, a group of terrorists hijacked two airliners and flew them into both of the World Trade Center towers. This was a devastating day for America. I can remember the day very clearly. this event is very significant to me because according to my father i had almost died that day. he took us to washington rock and i ran up to the edge of the cliff and almost fell the 50 foot drop to jagged rocks. instead with my incredible balance, i caught myself.
  • Athrax Attack

    Anthrax attack by mail from Princeton, NJ against news and Government targets. the first case of this was announced October 4. This was apparently a terrorist act. This is very significant to my life because first of all, it started in the state that I live in. Also i remember hearing about it on the news when i was 7 and my mother told me not to get the mail from the mail box. She told me to tell her first.
  • War in Iraq begins

    This was the day that President Bush declared War on Iraq. It began with the Bombing of their capital, Baghdad. The reason for this was becasue they apparently had weapons of mass destruction. This turned out to be false. But we did run Sadam out of power which was an accomplishment. This is significant to my life because it was a big deal at the time for our president to declare war. i was yound and didnt really understand why but it was a weird time.

    This was the day that the victory for Barack Obama was announced in the 44th presidential election. His opponent was John McCain. Prior to the election he was the Senator for the state of Illinois. He also announced that his Vice President would be Joe Biden, the Senator of Deleware. This is significant to my life because i can remember it clearly and my dad probably wouldve freaked out if he didnt win. Also he was the first African AMerican president.
  • H1N1 Virus

    On this day, the H1N1 virus was declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization. This was the first time this has happened since the Hong Kong Flu in the 60's. This is significant to my life because i remember getting real nervous about the virus. i thought it would be another black plague or something, they made a big deal about it in school.

    Osama Bin Laden Killed
    On this day, the terrorist leader was pronounced dead after a team of navy seals went into his compund in Pakistan and shot him. This order was given by Barack Obama. After he was dead they took his body to Afghanistan for identification. it was indeed him. this is significant to my life because he gave the orders the the World Trade Center destruction. if they had never killed him who knows what else he could have done.

    On this day, the first of many people started to occupy Wall Street in New York City. It began in Zucotti Park, with the initiating group being a candadian group called Adbusters. The main issues that were being fought for were economic equality. this is significant to my life becasue they were protesting for all of America basically. Everyone wants economic equality and thats soon going to be affecting me now that i have a full time job.
