The barons made an oath that they would stand fast for the liberty of the church and the realm. This showed their loyalty to the church over the king.

The rebels declared their arguements against the king, making the creation of a document like the Magna Carta more and more necessary.

The docuement was signed by King John, however he never had the intention of agreeing with the document and just wanted to buy time until he could overpower the barons.
