During the start of my time in college at Cal state San Marcos, i realized psychology wasn't for me and i ended up changing it to my minor. Through my love for social justice and activism during school i realized i had a love for all things feminism. I set my major to women studies and realized how interested i was in reproductive health.
-
I graduated with a bachelors in women studies and got a front desk job in a Women's clinic. At that time i hoped to end up working for a non profit.
-
During my time at the clinic i was also a part of a internship. The pathmaker internship is the only internship in this area that allows people with no experience volunteer and give direct patient care. I learned about nursing assistants through my time in this internship, and decided i wanted to be one.

My aunt was a nurse in Mexico and i saw how impactful she was to out family. I also really wanted to work at planned parenthood, i wanted to have an active part in fighting for reproductive rights. These things combined lead me to decided to become a nurse. So i started taking my prerequisites.
-
I worked for all 5 scripps and i was slowly but surely applying to nursing programs
-
After a year of no acceptances from nursing programs, i decided i was going to go out of state. But a couple of days after the new year i was offered an alternate position at Palomar College nursing program.
-
-
Through my time in the nursing program i worked night shift as a nurse assistant at scripps, i kept my floating position and got to learn about all specialities. I was floated to all types of specialities like L&D, ED, ICU, and urgent care.
-
In may i graduated nursing school, through my time in clinical and preceptorship i knew that med surg was not the speciality for me. I was determined to get a good new graduated experience and received a lot of advice from scripps new grad students, so i decided to only apply to scripps new grad programs in med surg.

All that was left was making sure i passed my NCLEX.
-
A couple days after my birthday there i was taking my NCLEX, shortly after i found out i failed. Failing my NCLEX was a very hard moment for me. Having to email the employee who tentatively hired me and going back to the drawing board was a lot on my mental health. Thankfully, my employer let me extend my start date in hopes i would pass my text again.
-
After a lot of crying and mid life crisis situations. I studied super hard, even went to a 3 day live workshop in Los Angeles. I retook my NCLEX and passed.
-
While i waited to retake my NCLEX and for my new grad program to start i continued to work as a CNA for Scripps. I began my journey in October. Next month be my 9 months since i started.
-
I always thought about returning to get my BSN but only after i got through the first year of being a nurse. School has always been very scary for me and i have a complicated relationship with it. But i was presented with an amazing opportunity, and here i am continuing my education.
-
Around this time i hope to be working at an emergency room or a ICU. I hope to be very excited and never stop wanting to learn more.
-
I hope to gain the confidence and skill set to share my skills with the world, and see what it has to offer back to me.
-
I would to like to further my education in some aspect not sure exactly which but hopefully when i have more knowledge under my belt this decision will come easy.
-
My dream job as an older nurse would be to work in PACU or a surgery center that offers 3-12s and no weekends. Using my free time to enjoy my life and give back to my community in other ways. I also hope i have enough retirement money to where i choose to continue working not because i have to but because i want too.
