  • The Begining

    The Begining
When me and my siblings were young, instead of reading bedtime stories, my father would play guitar and sing to us. We also would take turns singing, playing the drums.
  • Preschool

    Preschool
One of my first memories of writing, was sitting at the kitchen table and my mom would have me write "o-o-o" over and over again. When I was a kid I would hate this because I would have rather been coloring. She told us that it would help us learn how to hold a pencil and because it would help up write later in life, since there are a lot of circles and lines in the english language.
  • Grade School

    Grade School
In 5th grade my family moved to a new town, and it was really hard for me to make friends. So instead of playing with friends, I would read. I read everyday for hours. I read books like the Uglies novels, and Inkheart trilogy.
  • Working

    Working
In high school I started working in a restaurant, I still do. When I started I was a dishwasher and I became a waitress when I was a junior in high school. Because of these experiences, I know a lot of information about how to make change, how to interact with guests, and the language that is used in a restaurant.
  • High School

    High School
In my junior year of high school I realized that I loved history. Around this time a started doing a lot or research in my free time about events because because I really thought they were interesting. Topics that were particularly interesting to me were the Holocaust, Civil War, Titanic, Black Death, and Abraham Lincoln. These are all things that I have a really good understanding of still to this day.

    High School
In my junior year of high school I decided to join choir. I went into this class knowing nothing, and left knowing how to read music, and understanding different notes. I also learned a lot of different vocal terms during this time. Two of the most memorable things we did were joining the Illinois Valley Community College Choir while we sang "Messiah", and singing "Africa" by Toto. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTQbiNvZqaY)
  • Community College

    Community College
While I was at my Community College, I took the first education classes I would ever take, and I also did my first observation hours. From taking these classes and having these experiences, it gave me a really good understanding of the terms that I would need for my future classes here. I was also a member of "TEACH" at this school, which focused on stopping the use of the "R" word, and planning activities for students with disabilities in the surrounding high schools.

    Illinois State University
In January I took my first deaf and hard of hearing classes, which included my ASL class. This was the beginning of my journey into a different language, and a more visual language. I have had so many different experiences with ASL, including the friends that I have made. Many of them are Deaf, and they have not only helped me develop my second language but helped me understand the literacy of a different culture. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkMg8g8vVUo)
