My Nanny had a book of nursery rhymes and fairy tales that she would read to me every day. My favorite one was the Gingham Dog and the Calico Cat

My nanny bought me a box of old books at a yard sale. They were the Brains Benton Mysteries. I read them all and thought for a while I might be a detective. Some titles include The Case of the Missing Message and the Case of the Counterfeit Coin. I found out in adulthood that these books were from the 1960s!

I used to stay with my best friend, Oliver, after school until my mom got home. His mom and dad would have us use the encyclopedias to write research papers about various topics. Then they would read them and pick a winner. The winner got a treat. I wrote about Ford Model T cars and Oliver's dad airbrushed a shirt for me as my prize.

My brother and I used to put random topics in a hat and draw them out. Then we would separate and go to our rooms to write songs and dances about the topics. We would then perform them for each other and pick a winner.

When I was in high school, I played Gertrude in Shakespeare's Hamlet.
