    Beginning of Life

In my early childhood, I had very interactive parents that would read me books before bed and constantly play with me which helped me learn and develop as a young child. I would say this impacted me a lot because I learned through my parents at such an early stage.
  • Learning the alphabet

    Learning the alphabet

My mom would always read me the book called "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" which was a book about the alphabet. This helped me learn my letters very quickly because it had a rhyme to it which stuck to my brain after hearing it so many times.
  • Spelling My Name

    Spelling My Name

Learning to spell my name seemed like such a big step for me at the time, learning to spell my name has impacted me then and it still has a big impact on me to this day. As soon as I learned how to spell my name it was like I wanted to sign my name everywhere, no matter where I went. It was a huge accomplishment for me when I was 3!
  • Learning Vocabulary

    Learning Vocabulary

At this stage in life, I started learning small vocabulary words such as we, the, they, at, was, that, ran, run, etc.
  • Putting words and pictures together

    Putting words and pictures together

Putting words with pictures really helped me comprehend the context of different words. It also helped me learn how to put two and two together not just with books, but it helped me visualize more.
  • Learning Compound words

    Learning Compound words

Once I got enough practice and was more fluent with most basic words and sentences I learned more complex vocabulary and how they broke down for different meanings.
  • Computers and Social Media

    Computers and Social Media

Growing up in this era, social media has played a big part in how I grew up and how I learned. Google has always been an accessible resource for looking up different vocabulary.
  • Text Messages

    Text Messages

Text messaging honestly has impacted my literacy in a negative way, I always tend to misspell words and I would rely on auto-correct to fix them. Also, I use a lot of slang terms which basically are just easier ways of staying things without actually spelling them out. For example, "LOL" or "Wyd" or "Idk"
  • Going to College

    Going to College

College has taught me how to be more literate. From writing papers to just using more complex words on a daily basis.
