Literacy Narrative

  • Harry Potter

    Harry Potter
When I was about 4, my mom would read to me before bed whenever I was at her house on weekends. I dont remember many of the books, apart from two main ones. There was one about a golden retreiver names Peanut, and then there was Harry Potter. At the time, I didn't know much about the series, having only seen parts of a few movies, but I defeinitely didn't know that it would eventually become one of my favorite book sereies.

    Early Elementary Writing

English was one of my least favorite subjects in early elementary school. Most days for a few years I had to write down 5 sentences about what I did the previous day, and I hated doing it, because I didn't do much, or at least that's what I believed at the time. I'm sure I did a lot, just nothing I could remember or that felt worthy of being written.
  • Public Library

Once I was a litte older, around 7, my mom started taking me to the public library to look at books and check them out to read. I always loved going and seeing the cool books, even if most of the ones i was interested in at the time consisted of mostly pictures.

    Elementary Library

The library in my elementary school wasnt the amazing, but it by all means wasn't bad. I mainly stayed in one small section of it, so I don't remember what most of it looks like. Those were the years I began to get into reading, starting with small books like the Magic Treehouse series.
  • 5th Grade Writing Contest

    5th Grade Writing Contest
In 5th Grade, there was a contest for the whole school. Each student had to write an essay about what they would do if they had super powers for a day. I don't remember exactly what I wrote, but it won the contest. My name was called out at the assembly and I got to meet the author of some children's books, got some signed copies of her books, and some stuffed animals of characters from them. It's one of my prouder moments as a writer, even if I don't know what I wrote.
  • Middle School Library

The library in my middle school was amazing. There were so many books, much more than my elementary school's, as well as a skylight in the ceiling. I went there a lot to check out books, always enjoying the natural light. It's a shame I only went there one year, but at least I got to read the Percy Jackson series (another one of my favorites) while there.

    Jr-Sr Highschool Writing

After moving schools, the writing become more in depth. Instead of writing about small events in my life, I was being given topics to write about, do research on, and learn about. It didn't improve my veiw on writing itself, but I at least enjoyed the task more than before.
  • Harry Potter Revisited

    Harry Potter Revisited
When my mom first read Harry Potter to me, we only got through the beginning of the first book, but I still loved it. When I got in highschool and started reading novels about the size of those books, my mom said I should finally read them, so I did. They were amazing. It was one of the few series I almost couldn't put down because of how good it was.
  • My Favorite Series Ever

    My Favorite Series Ever
My Junior Year, my mom offered yet another series for me to read: The Sword Of Truth. I read a single chapter and I was sucked into the book as well as the whole series. Being 24 books long, it is by far the longest book series I have ever read, and the best. There was not a part in it that I didn't like, and I'm thinking of reading it again.
  • My first actual writing class

My senior year was quite hectic with a pandemic going on, and adding to that was a class I was dreading taking. It was only half the year, which I was thankful for, and the teacher was one of my favorites. I didn't dread it because I thought I would fail, but because I just didn't like writing at the time. It wasn't something that interested me. Luckily though, through my teacher and the topics I chose for my essays (they interested me a lot), I started to enjoy writing, even if just a bit.
  • Current Writing

In college, with my current writing class, my confidence in my writing confidence has risen even more. I enjoy the class, and writing has become less of a chore, even if I do still procrastinate a lot.
