    Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 in the coastal city of Porbandar, India.

    Gandhi was arrested in March and sentenced to serve 6 years in prison for a campaign of civil disobedience.

    The salt march began on March 12, due to the salt monopoly, which affected the poor. Gandhi left Sabartami (79 years old) for Dandi. On the day of the massacre in Amritsar, Gandhi reached the seashore and took a handful of salt with which he symbolically broke the monopoly.
