My birth
I was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. -
Came to America.
Me and my family came to America, to be free and earn opportunities that we didn't have in our country.My parents had to leave everything they had for us, their kids, they are amazing people because their lives unfolded in Burma and Malaysia so we had struggle a lot with the language. When we got to America we were in Chicago, Illinois, it was very cold and everything was so different from our culture. -
Going to school for the first time in America
I was in first grade. There was no one helping me out, and people were bullying me because of the way I talked in English. They had made fun of my culture, they made fun of my language and my family, and that really made me feel small and insecure. I never wanted to embrace who I am anymore, I was ashamed of who I am, and I never talked much and was really shy. -
Moving to NC
After living in Illinois, my family and I moved to North Carolina because my mom aunt had lived here. when we got here everything changed, we didn't feel alone anymore. -
New school
when I got to the new school, everybody was so nice and welcoming there was also Karen people to help me out. there was more help here, also the teachers understood me better that i needed more help. -
AVID
Then middle school came and I got into AVID. AVID made me realize that I was not alone, as time progressed i became this confident girl who was proud of who she was. AVID helped me out a lot with school. -
Now
This is greatly influencing me because I am reflecting trough moments that makes me see how much I've grown as a person.
