I am Ming Wu I was born on May 23, 1853. I am 27 years old. I have a small family, a wife and daughter. We live in China in a small house. We farm, but haven't made much money lately. We have been barely passing by. I want to go to America to be able to support my family more. I would miss them a lot, but it would be for the best. Life in China is nice but we can't make enough money to buy the things we need. We need more money. I am writing this to share my experience with others.

    Leaving my Life in China
To gt to America is a long process. It was a long hard journey. The part I remembered most was the boat ride. I knew that when I gt to Angel Island that the questioning would be hard and ongoing. My brother came to America a couple years ago he said the questioning took a long time, and that they really didn't want chinese to come into America. I was determind to get in to America no matter what. I remember the day when everyone was yelling that we were arrived in California on the boat.

The closer we got to the island the more nervous I was. Then were boarded off. I with many others were entering the island. It was a nice building that we walked into. Then I remember being in their for hours. The Americans kept asking me the same questions trying to get something out of me that they can send me home for. They finally realized that I was completely capable of being in America.I passed and was able to stay in America.

    Finding a Job in America
In California I slept outside for a day because I had no place to go. The next day I walked around looking for chinese men like me and asking them if they knew were to find a job. Many said no or ignored me. I finally met a chinese man that said his boss just let go of someone. We then walked together to his job to find his boss. We found him and he asked me if I needed a job, I said yes and accepted it. I was very grateful towards the chinese man that helped me. my new job was farm work.

    Hardwork to Support My Family
I get little money compared to the Americans, but it's money I can send home to my family. Compared to China I am making a decent amount. My life in America is just work. It can be depressing at times because of how the Americans treat me. When I walk by the kick dirt at me, but I just ignore them. I get poorly mistreated by all Americans. I never even done anything wrong to them. When I don't like living in America, I just think of my family and then I know why I'm here.
  • Life in America is Hard

    Life in America is Hard
Life feels like it has gotten worse in America. Americans are just unbareable sometimes. All that counts is that life in China is better for my family. My wife is able to put food on the table for my daughter. I would love for me family to stay with me here in America, but I know that is probably safer for them in China. I wouldn't want any Americans mistreating my daughter or my wife. I have been robbed, and beaten by the Americans. I just want life to get better.
