Life During a Pandemic

  • Unknown Last Day of Middle School

This was the last day before all of OCPS went on spring break. Unbeknownst to us, it was probably our last day of middle school. I may never get to see some of my friends again, and I never got to say a proper goodbye.
  • Online School Starts

Today was the first day that our classes were online. It was weird because I didn't talk to anyone for the whole day and I didn't get to see my teachers face to face. Some teachers did web conferences and some teachers recorded videos explaining the lesson, but most of them just published the work and maybe sent out an announcement telling you what to do.
  • Cancelled: Solo and Ensemble

Today was supposed to be solo and ensemble for orchestra, this would be my last year doing it in middle school but it got cancelled. Also on this day was supposed to be the end of the year showcase for my dance school, it got cancelled too. This was supposed to be one of the busiest days of the year, but it turned out to be one of the quietest ones.
  • Easter

Today my family sat in the living room and watched Easter service via facebook live. We've been doing church via facebook live for a few weeks now but the tone of the house felt different today. I think it was the fact of how bad this pandemic really is and how much it has changed our lives.
  • School is Officially Cancelled

Today Governor Desantis announced that all Florida schools would be closed for the remainder of the school year. I'm feeling very sad because I am probably never going to see some of my friends ever again, with them moving or even just going to different high schools.
  • Cancelled: Gradventure

Gradventure is a fun trip that all the 8th graders get to take to Universal after it is closed. We get to stay in stay park until around 1am, and is the last fun thing you do with all your friends in middle school besides the 8th grade social.
  • The State Reopens

Today is the first weekday of the state being open, businesses are allowed to have people in them again, although at 25% capacity, it still is very exciting. I was supposed to have my first day of dance at the ballet studio I go to today, but my mom said that she wanted to see how they handled the cleaning and use of everything so I had to sit today out. But I'll probably be able to go tomorrow!
  • Going to Dance Again

Today was my first day back at dance since the middle of March. I was very nervous to leave the house, I'm not sure why. But once I got to the studio I wasn't nervous anymore, I was excited to be there and to talk to people other than my parents.
  • Happy Birthday!

Tomorrow is my 14th birthday. Today my friend Ella dropped off her gift for me, and so did my friend Haven. Haven stayed and we had our first in person conversation with each other since the end of March. It was the first time that I had sat down and had a real conversation with someone since school shut down, it was nice to talk to someone who wasn't my family.
