From Then to Now and a Little Bit of How: How Life Before High School Shaped Me into Who I am Today

  • Start

    Start
I was born on August 9, 1997 prematurely and only weighed 4.2 pounds. Because of this, my mom knew she was going to have to work me very hard to not fall behind. She worked with me day and night to get me to where I am today, and now I know that if I never give up, I will always achieve what I want.

    Family
Even though family has always been everything, as it should be, this picture reaffirms the fact that some of the world's best friends also take the shape of sisters, or in my case as cousins.
  • Gossip is Wrong

    Gossip is Wrong
During my middle school years, it was fortified in my mind that gossip is wrong and that it is hurtful to others. Gossip does not make anybody cool or better than others, and this picture reinforces that.
  • Live in the Moment

    Live in the Moment
Even though I am growing older, it does not mean I can not embrace my ever-present child like qualities. It is important to live life in the moment and take every opporunity life throws at you whether that is an interview at a Fortune 500 company or the chance to ride in your favorite childhood toy.
  • Don't Worry About It

    Don't Worry About It
It took me a long time to realize it, but now I know that the people who didn't like me in middle school, or even the people who don't like me now, don't matter and they never have. I should not preoccuy my time with people whose opinions differ from that of my mom's. We all know my mom thinks I'm awesome, as should everybody's mom, so why should I worry about the opinions of those who disagree with her. My mom's normally right anyway.
  • Friendships Rock

    Friendships Rock
I learned in middle school that friendships are very important. Make genuine friendships with everyone around you because they are the people that will make the memories worthwile. A lot of times, the experience had would not have been the same had it not been for the people who shared the experience with you. Friends are there to make the tough times good and the good times even better.
  • Take Time to Smell the Roses

Take Time to Smell the Roses
Some of the most meaningful events in life are the smallest, most seemingless moments. The times you least expect to have an impact on you are the times that sometimes follow you the farthest throughout your life. That time someone opened the door for you when you thought all hope in humanity was lost could change your outlook on the earth.
  • The World Is Your Oyster

    The World Is Your Oyster
The most important thing my mom has taught me is to grasp every opportunity to travel. You learn the most lessons in life by seeing the world and all it has to offer you by way of its different cultures.
  • School is Cool

    School is Cool
Don't ever shy away from academic excellence. Do not ever think that school is not important, do not worry about what your friends will think if you stay home to study instead of going out, and do not ever give less than 110%. School may seem like a pain now, or a waste of time, but it will surely pay off in the long run, so be prepared.
  • Wear Red Lipstick and Don't Be So Serious

Wear Red Lipstick and Don't Be So Serious
Life isn't as fun if you take it at face value all of the time. Have fun, and don't be afraid to be silly because living life without cracking a smile will be harmful in the end.
  • Stand Up and Show Your Pride

Stand Up and Show Your Pride
Always stand up for what you believe in. Even though this picture may show my pride for Norway, and not the USA, that doesn't mean you still shouldn't show your pride for where you come from and what that stands for. If you are passionate about what you believe in, people will follow you and want to be around you. So, give them something to listen to.
