Lacy Dalton Time Line

  • Born

I don't remember anything about this day but according to my dad's diary he did buy a rototiller that day.
  • 1st grade

I remember this day well because I told my sisters that I was getting on the bus last, and after they got on, the driver closed the door in my face. He did reopen the door after I stood there and cried ! He said he didn't think I was big enough to be going to school. I remember thinking, "twelve more years of this??"
  • Graduated High School

My first day of school was repeated in some fashion throughout my school life. Teachers would tell me, "Why can't you be more like your sisters?" Then they would tell the sisters that followed after me, "I'm glad you're not like your brother?"
  • Married

We started dating in high school and have been married ever since.
  • Graduated from Ohio University

I started college later in life but once I started I finished the four year program in less than three years.
  • Hired at full time teacher

After graduation from college I substituted. That ranged from kindergarten up through high school and also included multi handicapped classes and SBH classes. I worked as an art/music teacher for the first year at middle school level. My classes had 50 or more students and a study hall with 97! My second, and the next 18 years, I worked with multi handicapped students. I really loved working with special students!
  • Graduated from Marshall University

I worked under temporary certificates until I graduated from Marshall.
  • Daughter Shelby was born

Shelby is our only child. She is the highlight of my life! She is currently taking advanced math classes at Shawnee to become qualified to teach high school math. She is a hard worker and seems to know what she wants in life.
  • Disney Cruise

This was our first cruise! There were some issues that I had to deal with very quickly. I am not a strong swimmer so thoughts of the boat sinking was on my mind, but after the life boat drill I was more at ease. It was a great trip. I think their island, Castaway Keys, was my favorite spot. Everyone staff member on the boat would speak and ask if we needed anything.
  • 4th grade intervention specialist

The category of multi handicapped was changing to multi category and the aide staff was being cut to one. I bid out because I did not think the changes were a good idea. So I went to a 4th grade intervention position. I missed "my" kids and aides terribly and working with the general education teachers was so different, I wasn't overjoyed with the change.
  • 7th grade intervention specialist

I moved from 4th to 7th and stayed there for three years. The parents as well as the staff and administration always liked my paperwork capabilities but I was just never really able to enjoy that age group. Middle school students would tend to say whatever was on their mind.
  • kindergarten / first grade intervention specialist

So, a position in kindergarten/first grade opened up and I moved into it. I really liked this age group but where I was split between two grade levels, it was a lot to keep track of, paperwork wise. I worked with 12 general education teachers.
  • 2nd grade intervention specialist

Last year, a 2nd grade intervention position came available. I only had to work with 6 general education teachers. I had 13 special needs students with IEP's. My room was in the preschool wing. I really liked seeing that age group but the teachers were young so I figured there would never be an opening.
  • road trip out west

We drove out west year before last. None of us have ever flown and we like driving for the most part because we feel you get to see more. We stopped at the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Las Vegas, Pikes Peak and visited 15 sites where the show Breaking Bad was filmed.
  • preschool intervention specialist

About a week before school started a preschool teacher found a job that was a lot closer to her home so she left. I guess being in the right place at the right time helped me into this position. I am currently working with a supplementary license and need to work toward certification. The pre school staff, elementary administration as well as the board office administration have been helping me. They have been great !! I absolutely love this position !!
  • Phonics, Writing, Spelling online class

Well, for one this is a requirement to fulfill. Two, I hope to become more knowledgeable in the areas of phonics, writing, and spelling to be able to help my students progress and become more ready for kindergarten class.
  • Personal Interests

I have a lot of outside interests and hobbies. I was a machinist after high school. I can weld metals. I like working with building metal and wood projects. I enjoy the outdoors and I love having seasons. I welcome the weather changes we have ! I am looking forward to this class !
