Kristen's Life 9/26/18

  • Moving to Brewster

    Moving to Brewster
I was born in New Rochelle and lived there until right before I turned 4 years old. I was excited and even though it was 13 years ago I do remember some of it. I remember that I was most excited to be living next to my cousins and the reason for this was because I was an only child and they were the closest people I had to siblings. The other distinct memory I have is pulling up the street to my house in the backseat holding my fish Dennis in my lap and my mom said "that's our new house."
  • Joining Girl Scouts

    Joining Girl Scouts
I joined troop 1019 in first grade. Prior to joining I only knew two of the eight girls in the troop. They had started the troop a year before but me and one other girl didn't join till the following year. Being apart of this troop as allowed me to make some close friends especially with the girl I joined at the same time as who is now my best friend. This troop as taken me on trips but most importantly it has taught me very valuable traits that I will need and use everyday of my life.
  • My first concert

    My first concert
Growing up my favorite singer and actress was Hannah Montana. My cousin and I were obsessed with her and that was the only tv show I watched. My aunt and my mom decided to get us concert tickets to see her. We drove about 2 hours and got a hotel room for the night. Three of the moments that stand out the most to me was all the people in the venue and how hectic it was, me saying to my mom, "can we go soon I'm tired" after the third song and when the Jonas Brothers were the surprise guests.
  • Getting my teeth knocked out

    Getting my teeth knocked out
It was the summer before 2nd grade and I was at my cousins' house with my parents. My cousin and I were playing tag and then we both ran around the same corner at the same time and my teeth collided with his forehead. I remember holding my front tooth and one of my canine's in my hand and there was a lot of blood. I started crying and my dad came and put paper towels in my mouth because there was so much blood. The other thing I remember was that my mom almost passed out from all the blood.
  • First family death

    First family death
I was 9 when the first death in my family occurred. I was home and my dad got a phone call saying my uncle was rushed to the hospital. My mom and I stayed home and waited to hear from my dad. When he called I could tell from the look on my mom's face what had happened. Going to my first funeral was pretty terrifying and heartbreaking and I cried a lot. One of my uncle's friends was making a speech and said "when I saw the little girl (me) crying in the front row, that's when I lost it."
  • Getting my dog

    Getting my dog
For years I had wanted a dog but my parents never wanted to get one. I begged so hard and tried to convince them with presentations and promises. They finally agreed and we decided to get a puggle. We found a breeder and it was set that my dad would pick the dog up on June 10th. The day finally came and it was highly anticipated. My dad was on his was home and sent us a video of Jaxson and when he pulled up the the driveway and I got to hold him, I don't think I had ever been happier.
  • My Uncle's Accident

    My Uncle's Accident
It was a normal afternoon and my cousins and I were all sitting at the kitchen table and around 5:00 the phone rang. My Aunt answered it and instantly her face dropped but none of us knew what was going on. When she got off the phone she said to my cousins, "Dad got in an accident." We were all confused and couldn't process it. At that point she left and went to the hospital and we all stayed together. Once we were updated we were told he got an infection and his leg needed to be amputated.
  • Grandpa had a stroke

    Grandpa had a stroke
In 8th grade my Grandpa was having some heart problems and one night he ended up having to go to the hospital. I didn't realize how serious it was until my mom told me that my Uncle from Florida was flying up on the next flight out. My Grandpa is one of my biggest supporters and this occurred during basketball season. He usually comes to every game and to not see him in the stands was one of the most upsetting and heartbreaking moments for me. Luckily he recovered and is doing well now.
  • First time traveling without my parents

First time traveling without my parents
In 2017 I went to the Dominican Republic with my best friend and her parents for her 16th birthday. My parents were very hesitant at first because it was for a week and it was out of the country. After a lot of convincing my parents agreed to let me go and to this day it was one of my favorite vacations that I have been on. Besides the fun portion of the trip it was memorable because I went without my parents. Not gonna lie, towards the last few days of the trip I started to miss my parents.
  • Failing my First AP

    Failing my First AP
I took AP World History in 10th grade. Social studies is one of my stronger subjects but since this class is a college course it was a lot more difficult. Throughout the year I struggled but so did my peers. I prepared a lot both in and out of the class for the test. Afterwords I felt okay about it but had no expectations. We had to wait two months to get our scores back and I received a two. I was pretty disappointed but did not let this get in my way and it only made me work harder.
  • National Honor Society Induction

    National Honor Society Induction
Junior Year I was invited to apply to the National Honor Society. It was a tedious process involving a character autobiography and charts requiring different information about me. After a few weeks of waiting I found out that I was accepted and then a month later was the induction ceremony. Here, we all lit a candle and then recited something and then blew out the candle signifying our initiation. This showed me that all my hard work in high school was paying off and I should keep doing that.
