Katie Hamilton's Socialization Celebration

  • It's a Girl!

    It's a Girl!
I was born on May 28th, 1997. This was the most important event in my life, Since I was born, my family has influenced my life in countless ways. They have taught me to walk and talk, as well as teach me society's norms.

    Birth - Toddler

  • My First Steps

    My First Steps
Taking my first steps was an important mark in in my life because it was showed that I picked up on what others around me were doing and how they acted. I can thank my family because they were around me, so I followed what they did. The examples that we read about in class said that people that were not socialized had trouble walking.
  • My First Word

    My First Word
I said my first word - Dada. This is part of the family agent because speaking is part of the family agent. The examples from class showed that people who weren't around others couldn't talk. I am very thankful that my family was around me because I love to talk.
  • My Friends

    My Friends
When I was a year and a couple months, my family and my Dad's friends went to adventureland. My dad's friend had 2 girls, Carry and Anna. For that day (and maybe others) we were friends. This is part of the social agent because it is me hanging out with younger people.
  • Daycare!!!!!!!!!!

    Daycare!!!!!!!!!!
When I was younger, I went to daycare. Between birth and toddler age, daycare was my education. Daycare taught me how to share. I have learned that sharing is important because people don't like you if you don't share your toys at daycare. If I didn't share, I would get put into timeout. This taught me quickly becuase I hated being told to go stand in the corner.
  • Good Night Moon

    Good Night Moon
My favorite book when I was really little was Good Night Moon. This falls under the Mass Media group, because it is a well known book. This book gave me a love for reading because by memorizing the words, it set me up for success. I also liked the story because it was colorful. Reading this book helped teach me the colors.

    Toddler - School Age

  • My ABCs

    My ABCs
While I was 3 and 4 I went to pre-school. Here I learned lots of useful skills, such as my ABCs. I remember that at pre-school they had lots of colorful letter blocks that I loved to play with. I always liked to put them in order and sing the ABC song. Education was a very important part of my early childhood because my brain was soaking up more information at that time of my life than later, when I was older.
  • I'm a big sister!!!!

    I'm a big sister!!!!
On December 4th 2000 my brother, Sean Hamilton, was born and I became I big sister. With time I came to accept that I couldn't get rid of him and we started to play together. He became my friend and I enjoyed teaching him useful skills, like the colors. I also enjoyed reciting my favorite book, Good Night Moon, to him. Because I had always lived in the country, it was nice to have a friend I could play with any time, so he fell into the peer group for the time being.
  • Ob-funk reunion

    Ob-funk reunion
My Dad's mom's side of the family had a HUGE family reunion in 2001. This family event let me meet lots of family members that I had never met before. This event also made me feel like I was part of a group because everyone wore matching shirts.
  • Clifford the BIG Red Dog <3

Clifford the BIG Red Dog <3
In July of 2001, I discoved Clifford. Our family had recently gotten a BIG yellow lab (well he was still a puppy then). So, this mass media agent taugh me how to act around dogs. I learned that they don't like it when you pull their tail. However, I also learned that real dogs don't like it if you ride on them like Emily does in the TV show. I loved Clifford so much, that that year for Halloween I dressed up as Clifford to go trick-or-treating!

    Elementary School

  • 1st day of Kindergarten

    1st day of Kindergarten
The first day of kindergarten was a big step up from 1/2 day pre-school and an important part of my education. Going to Kindergarten taugh me many more norms of what is and isn't allowed because I was with my peers. Kindergarten taugh me how to tie my shoes and zip up my coat. The teachers wouldn't help us with either one of these actions unless we tried it ourselves first. This also taugh me not to depend on others so much.
  • My Best Friend - Kelsey Boone

My Best Friend - Kelsey Boone
I met my best friend (peer group) in Kindergarten. It was fun to have a real best friend that I did activities with. I had not had a best friend before that I hung out with outside of daycare or kindergarten. I had also started to develop a form of self expression. We enjoyed finger painting and playing with puppets. Our friendship has lasted over the years. When we were in 2nd grade, we went to summer camp together at the science-station (this is what the picture is from).
  • Learning to read!!!

    Learning to read!!!
As I learned to read more words for my self I discovered that I loved the Box Car Children books. Reading a popular children's book series filled the Mass Media. I found that I could talk to other kids about them and we had a common ground.
  • Family Christmas Continued

    Family Christmas Continued
This year also stands out in my mind because my Grandma was battling cancer - very scary for a little girl in 5th grade! The events that took place brought me closer to her and my aunts and cousins. It shows that family always supports your. It also showed that in my family we value spending time and doing things to make some one who is sick feel better. I am sure that my Grandma still has all the cards I made her in a box somewhere.
  • Family Christmas

    Family Christmas
Ever year my Mom's side of the family celebrates Christmas together at my Grandparents. However, the Christmas of 2007 stands out in my memories because Mia and her son Ben were there, When my Mom was in college, my Grandparents had a forigen exchange student from Japan (she was my aunt's age). Even though we aren't related, I still call her aunt. It was fun to get to meet her and her son that year. I enjoyed the stories of when my mom and aunts were younger. Family is the most important agent.
  • Period: to

    Middle School

  • My Best Friend - Hannah Williams

My Best Friend - Hannah Williams
I met one of my best friends, HannahWilliams, in cross country in 7th grade. Participating in this equal relationship was fun because we could start making our own decisions because our parents were starting to give us more responsiblity.
  • My Grandma Died

    My Grandma Died
Unfortunatly, this family event was much more somber than my aunt's wedding. However, I did get to see my cousins again which was nice. I felt like I bonded with my family even more because of the event. It showed that family is the best agent ever because the understand what you are going through because they are going through the same thing. My family was there through out the entire ordeal. It was also nice to get to know my cousin better while we stayed up for my birthday!
  • Part 2 Harry Potter Movie

    Part 2 Harry Potter Movie
The 2nd part of the 7th Harry Potter movie came to theaters on July 17th, 2011. I loved all of the books, and had read them several times. This widely anticipated movie was a mass media event. Unfortunatly I was on vacation when it came out, but I got to see it as soon as I got back. Because the caracters are all witches/ wizards, I don't think of the characters as role models.
  • First Day of High School!!!!!

    First Day of High School!!!!!
Even though I didn't move up to a new building, the f1st day of high school is an important milestone in my education. This year I have paid more attention to my grades because they count for college. I also took time deciding what classes I should take because they too will affect my future. I have found that there is a LOT more homework this year with more challenges hidden in the curriculum. High school has also taugh me to manage my time more and not put assignments off for the last minute.
