My First Word
On June 10th, 1998, I said my first word, "mama." I was about ten months old and just started standing and let go. I do not remember when this happened, but because my mom never stopped talking about it, so I never forget either. It was an important milestone for me as an infant and the beginning of literacy. -
Kindergarten
I started attending Kindergarten and learning letters with phonics. We used to match the sound and point to something that started with the letter we were pronouncing. My classroom teacher had carpet alphabetically and would suggest that each choose their favorite letter they want to sit on. -
First Grade and Introduction
When I started first grade, it was fascinating and challenging because of meeting new people. I did my first classroom introduction in front of my peers and teacher. I made a lot of friends and got to learn many things in a short period of time. It was one of the most exciting and significant moments for me in my life because I was starting real school and loving it. -
First reading
At the end of first grade, I could read a few of Dr. Seuss's books, which were my favorite. I enjoyed reading it so much to the point that I memorized some of the words on “Green Eggs and Ham”. I would read the book with my older sister while she made corrections if I made mistakes. -
Computer Class
when I was in third grade, I started taking a computer class and learning how to use the keyboard correctly. We started using a standard comprehensive computer program and did some minor research for the classroom activity. I remember my classroom teacher gave us some time to sit behind the screen and use our fingers on the keyboard. -
First Research Paper
When I was in 5th grade, I researched my first paper and gathered information on how to support my writings. I learned how to find supporting details out of nothing and arrange them into outlines for writing my first research paper. -

Migration and Movement
I did not attend schooling because of relocating from one country to another within every short period of time. I couldn't stay in one place for me to start going to college, and I had to travel a lot during that time, which was a setback for me. However, all is going well, and my dreams have been accomplishing as I go along. -
Learning New Language
I came across something that I enjoyed doing during my travel moments, and I invested my time in it. I started learning Arabic, which wasn't easy but fun to do. I had to memorize two words a day and learn how to use them in a sentence, which helped me develop many vocabularies. -
The First Poem I Wrote
When I started college, I was taking a multi-language course, and I had to write a poem in my first language that represents me and my culture. It was really challenging and difficult because of translations and wording. I had to ask my father for help and learn some words from him to help me translate, which turned out pretty well. It was an incredible moment for me to present my culture and what we stand for in front of others. -
College Essay
When I started my first year in college, I wrote my most extended essay on English composition 121class. It was the most incredible experience of my literacy life and the most challenging one. I have never written a paper more than three pages, and the college composition was about 10-15 pages. I remember asking and researching how to develop an argumentative topic with details to support my claim. I was so nervous at the beginning, but I was utterly amazed by my performance in the end.
