    Why we use quadratic equation? We use the quadratic equation because it can should us where something will land if you shoot it up in the air. How we do that is we caluate where we shoot it.And how hight the object goes in the air.By doing all these things and more you have caluted where the object is going to land. And that's why we use quadratic equation.

Here is a example you find out where the rocket started and land and you times that. So after you get that number you see how long it will take to hit that ground. And with all this you pling it in to the formula. With the number you got form how long it took to hit the ground and where the starting point was you should get those numbers.

I think it relates because tell you the time when it is just up 90 degress.So all you have to do is change the angle and that would be your answer.How it relates to the Distance travelled to the launch angle. Well without it you couldn't tell where the rocket stoped and therefor you couldn't tell how much seconds it would take to hit the ground.
