    On the day that Mary is to be wed to Harry, the Unconsecrated breach the barrier and attack the townspeople. Mary doesn't make it to a platform in time and the chapter ends with Mary about to be killed by an Unconsecrated.

  • Chapter XV-XXIII

    Mary and her friends escape the Unconsecrated by going through the forbidden gate and onto the path. They all keep walking for days and finally they reach an abandoned town and stay, with Travis, Mary, and Argos in a fortified house with the rest up on the platforms.

  • Chapter XXIV-XXXI

    After days of living in the abandoned town, trouble strikes. There is a fire up on the platforms so everyone has to make a run for it. Travis is the hero and takes the rope across so everyone else can get down but he gets severly injured in the process.

  • Chapter XXXII-XXXVI

    After wandering around aimlessly, Mary finds the right path but has to leave the fencend-in area. She runs and eventually Jed catches up too, but when they are forced into a river with the Unconsecrated, Jed is gone and Mary is left with a stranger at another small town.
