    Richard Arkwright patented it in 1769. It allowed for more cotton to be spun than a human worker could. It achieved this by the use of water.

    John Fitch recieves his first patent on the steamboat, it revolutionizes river travel, allowing for more efficient movemoent of people and goods.
  • Cotton Gin

    Cotton Gin
    Deisgned by Eli Whitney, it revolutionized the way cotton was produced. It allowed for the cotton to be mass produced, which made the demand grow, helping to shape the textile industry in the U.S.
  • Erie Canal

    Erie Canal
    The Erie Canal is first used. It was an engineering marvel which lowered the cost of shipping between the Midwest and the Northeast. Jesse Hawley came up with the idea of a canal for faster and cheaper transport, which became the Erie Canal.
  • The Railroad Locomotive

    Designed by Peter Cooper in 1830. It showed the efficiency of locomotive engines, and despite having mechanical problems, was able to convince the railroad to adopt a steam engine.

    Samuel Morse creates the first morse code telegraph which completely revolutionizes the way people communicate. It allowed for the first succesful way to send to and intercept messages from someone without having to give it to them personally.

    Elias Howe made the first succesful sewing machine in 1845. It gave the average worker the ability to dramatically decrease the amount of time it took to make cloth. It helped propel the textile industry in the U.S.
