    United Nation gets Involved
    In 1947, the United Nations decided on a partition plan, this plan was to separate the land into two states, giving both Palestine and Israel land. Palestine was given the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, Jaffa, and the Arab sectors of Galilee.   • Israel Claims Independence

    On the date of May 19, 1948, Israel claims itself as an independent state. David Ben-Gurion read their Declaration of Independence and said the state was to be called- and recognized as - Medinat Yisrael, which translates to "state of Israel". The Declaration of Independence said Israel would be based on liberty, justice, and peace.     The PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization) was established in Jerusalem, it was founded in response to rising Arab conflict and Arab-Israel friction.
