With Theodor Herzl, who is considered to be the founder of modern had believed that the only way for jewws to be free is to have their own country.
  • The McMahon-Hussein Correspondence

    The McMahon-Hussein Correspondence was a series of letters by the British promising that in return for supporting them in fighting the Ottoman Empire. Hussein would encourage the Arabs to revolt against the Ottoman empire ad enter WW1 on the side of the allies. This is such a significant event because with the help from the Arabs the British could bring the ottoman empire in return that the Arabs area would be recognition of the independence of the Arab areas

    This was such a significant even in this conflict because Hussein would encourage the Arabs to revolt against the Ottoman Empire and enter World War I on the side of the Allies. In particular, Hussein demanded British recognition of the independence of the Arab areas of the Ottoman Empire

    This Agreement divided the land to create clear borders that had been under Ottoman Rules since the early 16th century into new countries in two spheres of influence: Iraq, Transjordan and Palestine under British control; and Syria and Lebanon under French control.

    After the WW1 the lands that were previouslly owned by the Ottoman Empire were divided between the french and the British to control With the control of Iraq, Transjordan and Palestine under British control and Syria and Lebanon under french control. This was such a significant event as it was the start of the modern Middle East

  • United Nations Partition Plan

    This was such an important event in this year because this was when the united nations approved resolution 181 which was a partition plan that demarcated a Jewish state and Arab state. The plan allocated 45% of land to Palestinians and 55% to Israel.
  • Establishment of the state of Israel

    In 1948 David Ben-Gurion, the head of the World Zionist Organisation, proclaimed the establishment of the state of Israel. In June 1948, the arab states of Egypt, Jordan, Iraq and Syria were invaded. This was such a significant event becasue it was the establishment of the israel and the establishment of arabs states.

    In June Israel fought a war with Egypt, Jordan and Syria. With Israel capturing the Gaza Strip and the Sinai peninsula from Egypt, east Jerusalem and the west bank from Jordan and the Golan heights from Syria

    The Palestine Liberation Organisation recognised the state of Israel and renounced terrorism, Israel recognised the PLO as the representative of the Palestinian people. This was a significant event because this was the time where they made peace but unfortunately in 1995 a right wing Israeli gunman assassinated Rabin at a peace rally

    2000, Likud leader Ariel Sharon visited the Temple MountH/aram al-Sharif. This provocative act, and the massive police presence, touched off riots the next day, in which Palestinian demonstrators were fired on by Israeli soldiers.
