    Muhammad's Birth
    Muhammad was born in 570 and married a woman named Kadijah. They had four daughters and two sons. In 610 Muhammad recieved the first verse of Qur'an which told him to preach the message to his family, but only his 13 year old cousin Ali listened. In 620 Muhammad experienced the most remarkable spiritual event of his life known as Isra' and Miraj. On this day Muhammad wass transported to Jerusalem then to Heaven. In 632 Muhammad died because of sickness.

    Abu Bakr becomes ruler
    Abu Bakr became caliph in 632. He was a non-religious leader that focussed mostly on military. He created a very powerful army that conqured many outside lands. His army fought in many wars including the Battle of the Trench and the Battle of Badr.

    Umar was one of the most powerful and intelligent rulers of Islam ever. He was the second caliph of the Rashidun caliphate. He was the first to call himself the "commander of the faithful".

    Uthman was the third caliph of the Rashidun caliphait. Uthman was born in 576 CE and became ruler in 644 CE. During his rule, the Islamic empire expanded all the way to modern day Iran. Military also expanded at the time of Uthman's rule.

    Ali was the youngest caliphs of Islam so far. He was born in 600 CE and died in 661 CE. He was the cousin of Muhammad, so he greatly followed his teachings. He caused the split of Islam and named one part Sunni and the other Shia.

    The Umayyad caliphate started after the death of Ali. It Umayyads fought in many wars againts Bahgdad. They were conquered in 750.

    Abbasid caliphate took over in 750 CE. It was named after Muhammad's youngest uncle Abbas. They concentraited more on the plains of Iran and Iraq and less on the coast unlike they Umayyads.

    Ghana empire gains power
    In 1060 a new empire rose in West Africa.This empire was caled the Ghana empire. The Ghana empire came to power by controlling trade routes and tax. In 1240 Ghana's power declined because of overfarming.

    In 1215 the Mongols sieged Bahgdad. They captured and destroyed it. The Mongols were under command of Hulagu Khan, brother of Mongke Khan.

    In 1299 a Turkish tribe grew into the Ottoman empire. It was powerful over 600 years. It was the most powerful caliphate by far because of it's rulers.
