  • Typewriter

    Henry Mill was the inventor of the typewriter. He issued a patent for it in 1714. The typewriter was invented so that documents could be written more neatly and exact. This invention was needed because legal and other documents took too long to be handwritten. It was invented in England. To me, this truly changed society becasue it allowed books, poems, plays, and more to be shared with the world.
  • Spinning Jenny

    The Spinning Jenny was invented by James Hargreaves. It was invented in 1768. The Spinning Jenny is a large wheel that couold spin up to 8 different spindles at once. This invention was needed because it was a much more sufficient way of spinning cotton than by using the Spinning Wheel. The Spinning Jenny was invented in Lancashire, England. People were able to make clothes faster.
  • Cotton Gin

    The Cotton Gin was invented by Eli Whitney in 1793. It is a machine made for an easier way to harvest cotton. The Cotton Gin was invented because it sped up the production of cotton; in just a day the produce grew from one pound of cotton per day to fifty pounds of cotton per day. This was a popular invention in the south. It changed economy.
  • Fulton's Steamboat

    The inventor of the first operating steamboat was Robert Fulton. His first sucessful steamboat launch was in Clermont in 1803. Fulton wanted to invent the steamboat for a quicker, easier, and less expensive way to transport material goods. This changed society becasue it helped with transportation and westward expansion went across North America.
  • Machine Gun

    The Machine Gun was invented by Richard J. Gatling. It is a machine used for defense in warfare and everyday life, however the original reason for it being invented was war. The gun was invented in Belgium. This changed society because in most circumstances it is useful to protect those who need it.
  • Lightbulb

    The lightbulb was invented by Thomas Edison in 1876. The lightbulb allows you to see without needing to use a candle. This invention was needed because it is a safer and easier way to light up a room. The lightbulb was invented in Menlo Park, New Jersey. This changed society because it allowed for a cheaper and more efficient way to see at night time or in the dark.
