Inventions of the Industrial Revolution

  • The Steam Engine

The steam engine was a really important invention created in 1698 by Thomas Savery. This invention was created for the helping of removing water that seeped into the bottom of coal mines. The machine converted heat energy of steam to mechanical energy. It improved transportation and became the dominant power source of industries.
  • The Typewriter

The typewriter was a machine that created characters on a piece of paper inserted around a roller that was invented by Henry Mill in 1714. This made reading and writing so much easier because the letters created by this machine were so neat and perfect. Christopher Sholes is actually the father of this invention though, because even though he didnt invent it, his idea made this invention happen.
  • The Cotton Gin

The cotton gin was an invention invented in 1973 by Eli Whitney. This invention was made for harvesting cotton with less effort. This machine allowed to produce more cotton than by hand. The cotton gin was created because the wanting of cotton was rising during those years (because they came up with a new way to produce cloth). This invention created a great effect. Cotton was now the dominant crop in the south. The downside was that more slaves were used for this in the U.S.
  • The Light Bulb

The light bulb was first re-invented by Thomas Edison in 1879. It actually was invented by Englid chemist Joseph Wilson Swan. Edison created this light bulb because he wanted to use a filament that could be used for light without it melting or burning up. Also, he created this for domestic use because arc lights were too dangerous for houses. This caused the breaking down of gas companies because gas was used to light up gas lamps. This started the world's first power station in New York City.
