  • Steam Engine

    While many steam powered devices were created in the past, Thomas Avery was the first to patent a steam powered engine. The steam powered engine made a huge difference in the way people traveled. It led to the development of more complex variations, which in turn led to the invention of the gas powered engines we use today.
  • Sewing Machine

    Sewing Machine
    Thomas Saint created the sewing machine. The sewing machine was first invented in 1755 but was remade and improved by Englishman Thomas Saint in 1790. The sewing machine is still used in American today. Many people take sewing up as a hobby. It impacted America by allowing factories to make fabric items (clothing) faster.
  • The Steamboat

    The Steamboat
    The Steamboat was created by John Fitch, and recieved its patent on the 26th of August 1791. Fitch's first successful trial was on the Delaware River on the 22nd of August 1787. The invention of the steamboat greatly incresed the speed of water travel. The increased speed of water travel made it quicker for more parishable goods, and the travel of people to other places. this led to the invention of better engines that are used today.
  • The Erie Canal

    The Erie Canal
    The Erie Canal was an idea formed by New York legislators. The plan for it came into fruition when Governer Dewitt Clinton convinced legistature to authorize him 7 million dollars for the construction of the canal. The construction on the Erie Canal or "Clintons Ditch" was starting in August of 1823. The constuction of The Erie Canal greatly improved transportation of goods between the North Eastern states, also allowing quicker travel to other states. The Erie Canal is still used today.
  • Steel Plow

    Steel Plow
    John Deere invented the steel plow in 1837. Deer, created the steel plow when the mid-west started to become populated, and the wood plows used prior to his invention would keep breaking. John Deere invented the plow in Grand Detour, Illinois. The steel plow changed the agricultural world by making it easier to break up tough ground in higher climate areas. The steel plow is still used today in modern farming equipment.
  • Vulcanised Rubber

    Vulcanised Rubber
    The Vulcanised Rubber was invented by Charles Goodyear. The prosses was created in 1839. Goodyear got the patent in 1844 form the United States. Vulcanised rubber is still used today. its used for car tires.
  • Electric Telegraph, and Morse Code

    Electric Telegraph, and Morse Code
    The Electric Telegraph and Morse code were invented by Samuel Finley Breese Morse. Samuel Morse became interested in electricity in 1827. In 1832 Morse began a 12-year period of perfecting his device for telagraphy. He demonstrated his device to congress in Washington, DC. Telagraphy revolutionized the way messages were sent and received from long distances. Prior to its invention messages were entrusted to couriers, which could have lost the message between trips.
