  • Steam Engine

    Steam Engine
The steam engine's invention is credited to Thomas Savery and Thomas Newcomen in 1698 though James Watt greatly improved it and made it reliable. A steam engine is able to use the energy of steam to move machinery. Steam engines were greatly used to run locomotives and steam ships. They were very convenient and were a fairly clean source of energy.
  • Cotton Gin

    Cotton Gin
Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin. This machine revolutionized cotton production because it sped up the process of removing seeds from cotton fibers. The cotton gin worked something like a sieve, the cotton was run through a mesh that didnt let the seeds through but the cotton was pulled out easily by hooks. By the mid 19th century cotton became America's leading export because of the efficiency of its production.
  • Interchangeable Musket Parts

    Interchangeable Musket Parts
Inventor: Eli Whitney. He used interchangeable parts to assemble muskets. This meant that all the muskets he made would be made of the same parts. This made it very easy to repair and replace. Muskets could be manufactured on a larger scale quickly by relativley unskilled workers.
  • Telegraph

    Telegraph
The telegraph was invented by Samuel Morse. It revolutionized long distance communication. Messages were sent between stations by electric signals over a wire between the stations. Morse came up with a code that assigned a set of dots and dashes to every letter of the alphabet which made it easier to send complex messages. Today the telegraph has been replaced by the phones, internet, fax machines and emailing.
  • Sewing Machine

    Sewing Machine
The sewing machine was invented by Elias Howe. It made producting of things like clothing and blankets much faster and easier which used to be sewn by hand. The sewing machine worked by putting thread around the wheel, then through the tube and then pushing the pedal to make cloth.
  • Telephone

    Telephone
Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. Bell invented the telephone while trying to improve the telegraph which could only send one message at a time. The telephone worked by sending an electric current through a wire. The strength of the electrical current varied depending on the tone of sounds. Today the phone has greatly advanced ex: smartphones
  • Light Bulb

    Light Bulb
Thomas Edison didnt really invent the light bulb he just improved it. Light bulbs had been around for some time but they were short-lived, unreliable and expensive. He improved it by creating a vacuum inside the bulb, finding the right filament to use and running lower voltage through it. The light bulb he created was longer lasting and affordable.
  • Diesel Engine

    Diesel Engine
Rudolf Diesel invented it. The diesel engine is a pressure ignited heat engine. His engine was the first that proved that fuel could be ignited without a spark. It was used to power pipelines, pipelines, electric and water plants, automobiles and trucks, and marine craft, and soon after were used in mines, oil fields, factories, and transoceanic shipping.
  • Airplane

    Airplane
Wilbur and Orville Wright were the inventors of the first airplane. They were the first to make a successful human flight with a craft that was powered by an engine and was heavier than air.It wasn't used immediately for transportation because it took some years to perfect. It has a very big impact today, people fly all the time and it saves a lot of time.
  • Model T Ford

    Model T Ford
Invented by Henry Ford. The Model T changed the way Americans live, work, and travel. Fords advancements in the assembly line made the Model T affordable for many Americans. Many people liked it because of its low cost, durability, versatility and ease of maintenance. It revolutionized transportation, it made it much easier and faster.
