Pre- Whitney: Roller Gins

Prior to the Cotton Gin, there were machines called Roller Gins. These machines squished the cotton between two long cilinders called rollers. This device was not as effective as the Whitney's Gin, and was only a minor improvement over hand seperating the seeds.
