  • The Cotton Gin

    The Cotton Gin
    The cotton gin was invented b Eli Whitney in 1793. Eli was born in 1765 in Westboro, Massachusetts and died in 1825. While on a trip to Georgia, Eli realized that there needed to be an easier way to seperate cotton from its seed. The cotton gin was patented in 1794. This invention revolutionized many aspects of agriculture.
  • The Mechanical Reaper

    The Mechanical Reaper
    Cyrus McCormick, the inventor of the mechanical reaper, was born on February 15th, 1809 in Walnut Grove, Virginia; and died on May 13th, 1884. McCormick recieved his patent for the mechanical reaper in 1834. The mechanical reaper was built to harvest grain. This sped up the harvesting process and allowed farmers to earn more money by making more grain faster. McCormick outsold his competitors when his patent expired, so he was able to re-earn it.
  • The Typewriter

    The Typewriter
    The typewriter was mainly designed by Christopher and Samuel Sholes, with the help of Carlos Glidden. They patented their first machine in 1867. They sold the rights over to an investment group, and the group sold it to Remington & Sons; a firearms company. In 1873, Remington & Sons produced the Sholes and Glidden Typewriter. It wrote capital letters on a QWERTYUIOP keyboard with an "up-strike".
  • The Light Bulb

    The Light Bulb
    The light bulb was desinged by Thomas Edison in Menlo Park. Edison told reporteds he was working on an electric light. Edison's light bulb had a thin, spiraled filament made of platinum inside of a glass globe. When electricity was sent through the filament, it glowed. However, Edison's first light bulb could only burn for an hour. After revisions, the bulb could stay lit for a longer time. The lightbulb revolutionized the way people lived because they now had a new source of light.
