Gandhi proposed a non-violent march protesting the Salt Acts. He wanted to help free India from British control. He disobed the government in order to do this. The Salt Tax was illegal to sell or produce salt, and with this the British will have all the power. Since the salt is necessary for the people everyone was affected with this tax so they didn't care fighting for this.

Gandhi was shot and killed by Nathuram Godse (Indian Nationalist). He assassinated Gandhi because Godse blamed Gandhi for the Partition of India which killed lots of people.
