The dutch where the first European nation to imperialise South Africa. The Europeans settled in South Africa in 1652. It was their first settlement in modern day Africa. This happened when employees of the Dutch East India, represented by Jan van Riebeeck, established a supply base on the shore of Table Bay, the site of modern day Cape Town.
