    British began to smuggle drugs into China due to their lack of trade. China tried to stop smuggling of the opium and the relentlessnes lead to the Britsh winning and creating Treaty of Nanjing.

    Gold and diamonds became more popular in South Africa bringing more adventures to the area. The boers(farmers) were trying to keem the new travelers out of their land creating friction between them and the British government.
  • Open Door Policy

    U.S. created the Policy after seeing the friction of the Opium Wars. The Policy opened Chinese trade to all nations to prevent smuggling.
  • Boxer Rebellion

    Peasants or Boxers, rebelled agianst Euopean settlers in Beijing because they didn like them being there. The chinese goverenment did not act against this rebel because they had the same views of the Europeans as the Boxers did. European soldiers finally came in to defeat the Boxers and stop the rebellion

    Chinese who desired a modern independent republic rebelled against the Qing dynasty. They were wanting to become a democracy and modernize. The rebels won.
