    A company that traded within India and became the richest and most powerful trading companies in the world. The British government did not control the company, and the Company controlled most of India.
  • Opium Wars

    The British were smuggling opium into China, and China wanted to stop this smuggling, thus the Opium Wars began. The British ended up winning the Opium Wars and created the Treaty of Nanjing to make China give them money.
  • Treaty of Kanagawa

    Treaty of Kanagawa
    The Treaty of Kanagawa was created to open the ports of Shimoda and Hakodate to American trade and permit the establishment of a U.S. consulate in Japan.
  • Sepoy Rebellion

    Sepoy Rebellion
    The Sepoys were Indian soldiers that rebelled against the British in 1857, but the British beat the Sepoys in 1858. Due to this revolt, Parliament tightened control of India and ended the East India Co. Dominance.

    The British Raj was a period in time when the rule in India was under a British Crown. This period built the Indian economy and gained Indians more rights, but changed the way of the people and forced them to grow cotton instead of wheat causing many to starve.
