    Muhammad Ali was the extroardinary leader of the Egyptian Empire, before he died in 1849 he had set Egpyt on the path of becoming one of the most powerful nations of its time but his predecessors lacked his skill. This resulted in a French entrepeneur coming and having a company build the Suez canal and egypt couldnt pay him back for it so they had to sell their goods brought over the canal and give the profits to Ferdinand (the entrepeneur).

    In 1882 Egyptian nationalists revolted against foreign enfluences that were beginning to come into their culkture, in return the British let the Egyptian ruler control his people but he had to follow policies made by the British.
  • The Berlin Conference

    The Berlin Conference
    In 1884 the European powers met not in Africa but in Berlin Germany. They met to avoid bloodshed, in this conference they talked and reasoned on how they could slowly take over the African continent. They sent some of their powers to Africa, for example they sent people to not go for the bigger African rulers but some of the smaller ones that ruled over little towns and cities. They didnt invite any African rulers to this conference.

    In 1885 the main nationalist leaders organized the Indian National Congress or the Congress party. This groups main beliefs were that they could end all the disputes and struggles with peaceful protests and NO VIOLENCE. These Indians wanted to eventually propose self-rule but for the time being they supported Western-style modernization.

    In 1898 a young chinese emporer by the name of Guang Xu made new reforms to the chinese land. These included the modernization of civil service exams, streamline government, and encourage new industries. This greatly affected schools, the military, etc. Soon the conservatives rallied against this reformation and won over the emporer, he was imprissoned and his followers fled for their lives while the aging empress Ci Xi regained control over the land. This is also the hundred days of reforms.

    In 1898 Germany also wanted to increase regional influence.Germany was also trying to gain influence against the British. In order to gain this influence Germany built a Berlin to Baghdad railway in hopes of it impacting the region. This would also incerase the power Germany had over its nation and others.

    Between the timespan of 1899-1902 the Boers who were people who didnt like the non-slavery law of the British fled their control waged war against Britian which involved lots of Guerrilla warfare but in the end the British were victorious.

    In the 1890s a group of liberal people created a movement called the young Turks, their beliefs was that the only way to save the empire was to reform. In 1908 they overthrew the Sultan, howeever before they could get ahold of their planned reforms the Ottoman empire was hauled into the World War that ignited in 1914.
  • A Chinese Republic is Born

    A Chinese Republic is Born
    Ci Xi died in 1908 and her land quickly spread into chaos because a 2 year old boy inherited the throne. Uprisings the provinces quckly happened and spread as local warlords and even court politicians helped to overthrow the Qing dyansty. In December 1911 a person name Sun Yixian was named the president of the brand new Chinese Republic.

    There were many factors, including, Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism & Nationalism, but this is the single event that sparked or ignited World War 1.
