    Monroe Doctrine

    Made by President Monroe that the U.S. would not interfere with European affairs. The country would not interfere with the Western colonies that were already existing. The Western hemisphere was closed to future colonization. If the European countries tried to control or oppress any Western Hemisphere would be viewed as a hostile act against the United States.

    The treaty ended the Opium Wars and was one of the first unequal treaties between China and Great Britain. They British got more than China and had more power with that as well.

    He forced Japan to trade with the other countries after years of isolation from the world. Through his efforts the U.S. became a world power with Britain, France, and Russia for exploiting East Asia.

    Japans first treaty with a western nation. Marked the end of Japans seclusion. Was signed because of Perry coming into Japan with a fleet of warships and demanding that they open their ports for U.S. ships.

    The sepoys religion did not allow them to put the cartridges to their lips because they were covered in pig and cow fat. The British soldiers then ashamed them and put them in jail. The sepoys did not like it and decided to fight against them. They lost and were put back into their positions.

    Benjamin Disraeli had Queen Victoria named Empress of India to link the empire further to Britain.It was thought that this was absolutism and many refused it but it went on anyways.

    Was formed to get their independence from Britain. Started to boycott British goods which helped them to get their independence.

    Created by the United States for trading countries to have equal privileges with China. It also protected Chinese territory and administrative integrity.

    The boxer rebellion happened because of foreign influence. The Chinese government was not supported and foreign influence did not help it in any way. The boxers wanted it to be gone so they rebelled against them.
