    Tongmenghui

    A secret society and underground resistance movement founded by Sun Yat-sen on August 20 1905. the society and movement lasted from 1874-1916.
  • Republic revolution

    A group of revolutionaries in the southern China led a successful revolt against the Qing Dynasty. There were numerous uprisings and organized protests inside China.
  • Signed agreement

    The chain of events immediately leading to the revolution began when an agreement was signed with a four-power group of foreign bankers for the construction of lines on the Hukwang (Huguang) Railway in central China.
  • Establishment of the republic of China

    Sun Yat-sen announced the establishment in Nanking. He was inaugurated as the Provisional President of the Republic.
  • Last Manchu emperor abdicated

    Last Manchu emperor abdicated

    Hsian-T'ung was the last emperor of China, he was forced to abdicate following Sun Yat-sen's republican revolution. A provisional government was established in his place, ending 267 years of manchu rule in China.

    China was a nation in crisis, powerless to stop the incursions of Western colonial powers. In 1912, Sun Yat-sen came to power with Kuomintang, the country’s Nationalist Party. The emperor abdicated, and China became a republic.
