    The Opium Wars were two armed conflicts between China and the western powers. The first Opium War was fought between China and Great Britain. The second Opium War was fought by Britain and France against China. These wars helped weaken the Qing Dynasty and cause it to be toppled. These wars were fought due to China restricting the Trade of Opium.

    The Sepoy Rebellion

    This was a widespread rebellion orchestrated by Indian soldiers employed by the British East India company called Sepoys. This was caused by years of British domination over India and the slow eradication of Indian Culture. It all boiled over whenever the Sepoys were issued Cartridges greased with pig/cow grease which caused them to believe they themselves were tainted by biting them.     The Suez Canal began construction on September 25th, 1859 and was completed on November 17th, 1869. It serves as a direct connection between the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea. It allowed for ships to go from Europe directly to Asia instead sailing around Africa.

It was the most costly war Great Britain engaged in between the Napoleonic Wars and WWI. It began on October 11th, 1899 and it resulted in a British victory despite massive British monetary losses.
