    The Monroe Doctrine was articulated in President James Monroe's seventh annual message to Congress. This Doctrine warned European powers not to interfere in the affairs of the Western Hemisphere. The Monroe Doctrine is the best known U.S. policy toward the Western Hemisphere.

The Open Door Policy was first seen at the Berlin Confrence.The policy had stated to keep china open to trade with all countries on an equal basis, keeping any one power from total control of the country.

    (October 11, 1899 – May 31, 1902) The first clash between the British and the Transvaal Boers. The British consolidated their power over most of the colonies of South Africa in 1879. The Boers protested, and in December 1880 they revolted. There were many battles such as Majuba Hill, Laing's Nek, etc. A peace treaty was signed on the 23rd of March, 1881.

In 1914, the canal was finally finished. the Hay-Bunau-Varilla Treaty of 1903, which provided the United States with a 10-mile wide strip of land for the canal, a one-time $10 million payment to Panama, and an annual annuity of $250,000.
